Social Circle Theater presents “Stories from the Well”
Social Circle Cotton Mill featured this year
Social Circle Theater will present “ Stories from the Well: Startin’ All Over Again,” on Sept. 20 and 27 at 4 p. m. and 7: 30 p. m. and Sept. 21 and 28 at 4 p. m.
This year’s series of Stories from the Well features the Social Circle Cotton Mill, which was started in 1901 and ran for roughly 12 years before going bankrupt. It was then bought by a group of local citizens and it started over again.
Years later the mill was sold once more, this time to Canon. During a strike in 1935 many farmers and their wives entered the mill to save their land and homes and again, the mill started over.
For the first time in the series, this production will feature three families; a white family from the town, a black sharecropper family and a white mill family. The production follows these families as they live their lives and realize that the only thing that keeps them apart is the money the yeither do or do not have. When it comes to a love for their family and one another they are not so different after all.
“ Seems like we’re always startin’ over… one way or another,” reads the press release for the production. “As a child, you gave up play days at home to start school. You started over learnin’ in a different way. Your family must move to another town. You start
