Sweet­heart Re­lay for Life 2009 Pageant

If you’re a beauty queen or a beauty queen at heart and want to raise money for the fight against can­cer, take note. The Miss Sweet­heart Re­lay 2009 Pageant will be held Oct. 19, at East­side High School, with all pro­ceeds go­ing to ben­e­fit the Amer­i­can Can­cer So­ci­ety’s New­ton County Re­lay for Life.

With nine dif­fer­ent age cat­e­gories, there’s a spot for girls of ev­ery age, from new­borns to 17 and up.

Each con­tes­tant will be judged in a gown, and con­tes­tants in the Jr. Miss (age 1415) and Miss (age 17 and up) cat­e­gories will an­swer one ageap­pro­pri­ate ques­tion on stage.

The win­ner of each age divi­sion will be crowned queen and par­tic­i­pate in the New­ton County Re­lay Cer­e­monies in April 2009 and ride in the Cov­ing­ton Christ­mas Pa­rade this De­cem­ber.

Each par­tic­i­pant will re­ceive a tro­phy as well, with spe­cial awards go­ing for pret­ti­est hair, pret­ti­est smile and pret­ti­est dress in each age divi­sion.

Gowns, hair and makeup should be age ap­pro­pri­ate.

The con­tes­tant who raises the most money for Re­lay for Life will win the Spirit award, with a custom ban­ner, tro­phy, crown and spe­cial prize.

The regis­tra­tion dead­line is Oct. 15, al­though early birds will re­ceive a $15 dis­count for reg­is­ter­ing by Oct. 1.

The en­try fee is $75, with checks payable to the Re­lay for Life.

Regis­tra­tion be­gins at 12:30 p.m., and the pageant be­gins at 2 p.m.
