Tyger, Hooten lead Ox­ford to 3-0 week

Tay­lor Tyger had a pair of goals and Jenna Joy­ave buried a 35-yard di­rect kick from a wide po­si­tion in the ninth minute of the first over­time to lift the Lady Ea­gles over Ge­or­gia Perime­ter Col­lege in Clark­ston.

Tyger brought Ox­ford (4-1) back from an early 1-0 deficit to score two first half goals against the host team. Erica Green played Tyger right through the cen­ter of the Ga. Perime­ter de­fense mid­way through the first half for an 18-yard strike and Katie Phillips played Tyger al­most an iden­ti­cal ball that she slipped past the Ga. Perime­ter goal­keeper at close range for the 2-1 lead go­ing into half­time.

Fol­low­ing the break, Ga. Perime­ter ap­plied pres­sure through­out most of the sec­ond half and was awarded a penalty kick for its ef­forts at the 70-minute mark. The Lady Jaguars con­verted the chance and evened the score at 2-2.

Both teams went back and forth and cre­ated chances in the last 20 min­utes, but nei­ther team could man­age the winning goal that they needed.

Ox­ford opened the first 10-minute golden goal pe­riod by at­tack­ing the Ga. Perime­ter de­fense with an ad­justed three­for­ward sys­tem. In the fifth minute of the ex­tra pe­riod, Arielle Hay­den served a ball across to Phillips who blasted a 20-yard shot that just missed the far up­per ninety for the win.

Min­utes later, an Ox­ford player was fouled on the touch line, 35 yards from

the Perime­ter goal.

Af­ter a two game drought, Han­nah Hooten re­turned to the scor­ing col­umn in a big way as she score five goals while Ox­ford thumped Delaware Tech 8-0 in the first game of a unique dou­ble header at the Howard CC Tour­na­ment in Columbia, Md.

Tyger helped Ox­ford get to the half 3-0 when she con­verted a pass from Arielle Hay­den a few min­utes be­fore the half­time whis­tle. Ox­ford set­tled down in the sec­ond half to score six more times against Del Tech.

Ox­ford Col­lege won the sec- ond game of the Sun­day dou­ble header against the host team, Howard CC, pre-sea­son No. 4 in the JUCO 3 rank­ings.

Katie Phillips sparked the Ox­ford (6-1) at­tack all match long with her spir­ited play and was re­spon­si­ble for cre­at­ing both of Ox­ford’s goals.

Phillips started quickly when she played a beau­ti­ful ball in the fifth minute be­hind the Howard de­fense to lead Tay­lor Tyger who beat the Howard goal­keeper to the far post for the early 1-0 lead.

Han­nah Hooten slot­ted home her sixth goal of the week­end 13th of the sea­son to stretch the lead to 2-0.
