A 10-year-old boy was shot in the face with a BB gun Sunday evening by another juvenile who reportedly said he was just playing around.

Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Department were called to Cedar Ridge Drive by the 10-yearold boy’s mother who, according to reports, told them that she and her son had been walking down the street when a vehicle passed them. According to the woman, as soon as the vehicle passed she heard a popping sound coming from the car and then noticed her son had been shot under his left eye.

The mother reportedly tracked the vehicle down at a residence and called 911. When deputies arrived they spoke with a 16-year-old male who allegedly told them he didn’t mean to hit the child with shots from his BB gun — he was just playing around.

Regardless of his intentions, the juvenile was charged with aggravated assault and cruelty to children in the second and third degree.
