Hen­der­son leads the way as East­side's ace

East­side’s soft­ball team came into 2008 with high ex­pec­ta­tions. No­body’s felt the pres­sure to live up to past suc­cess like ju­nior Amanda Hen­der­son. So far, she’s de­liv­ered.

Hen­der­son struck out 10 bat­ters against Jack­son County Tues­day in a 13-1 re­gion victory and picked up three more vic­to­ries along the way to lead the Lady Ea­gles to a 4-2 record and earn The Cov­ing­ton News/ Johnny’s Pizza Prep Ath­lete of the Week.

“Amanda has been very solid for us through­out the sea­son, in­clud­ing last week,” East­side soft­ball coach Heather Wood said. “She al­ways puts us in a po­si­tion to win.”

Hen­der­son was part of last year’s 3 in Re­gion 8-AAAA and with the team mov­ing down to 3A, she knew this year pre­sented an op­por­tu­nity to go even fur­ther. Com­ing into this week, the Lady Ea­gles have com- with Hen­der­son set­ting the tone each time she steps on the mound. Along with her pitch­ing, Hen­der­son has proven to be equally valu­able at the plate.

“She has also been a huge as­set to our team of­fen­sively,” Wood said. com­peti­tor, and I ex­pect great things from her for the rest of the sea­son.”
