Porterdale Police Dept. furloughs one officer
Lay off eliminates need for other salary reductions
In an attempt to help with the budget crisis, Porterdale Police Chief Wayne Digby has decided to lay off one public safety officer.
City council members agreed to cut all municipal salaries 20 percent in an attempt shore up a $ 200,000 budget shortfall.
According to Digby, 20 percent from the PPD is the same amount as one officer’s salary between now and the end of the year.
“ I think the best thing for everyone is just to furlough one person,” Digby said. “ It will still allow for plenty of coverage.
“ We will just have to reshuffle things a bit.”
With the layoff there will now be six full- time officers in Porterdale.
