Tigers in need of of­fen­sive spark, may turn to Tolen at quar­ter­back

Af­ter tough losses the past two weeks, Al­covy looks to get back on track as they head into Stock­bridge for a re­gion 4-AAAA matchup at Stock­bridge Sta­dium tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Al­covy’s sea­son open­ing victory over New­ton seems like a long time ago. The Tigers (1-2, 0-1 Re­gion 4AAAA) are search­ing for their first re­gion win. Com­ing into the sea­son, Al­covy coach Kirk Hoff­man knew it wouldn’t be easy. But three games into the 2008, the Tigers are looking for an­swers on of­fense as they have scored just two of­fen­sive touch­downs in their first three games.

De­spite play­ing very well de­fen­sively, Al­covy will have to get con­tri­bu­tions from its pass­ing game as the sea­son pro­gresses. Tonight’s game might be a good place to start.

Al­covy’s quar­ter­back through the first three games, P.J. Thomp­kins, has been side­lined through­out the week with a high an­kle sprain and is doubt­ful for tonight’s game. If Thomp­kins can’t go, Rod Tolen is poised to get his first start. With only one pass­ing touch­down on the year, the Tigers may get a boost from the change.
