Tigers in need of offensive spark, may turn to Tolen at quarterback
After tough losses the past two weeks, Alcovy looks to get back on track as they head into Stockbridge for a region 4-AAAA matchup at Stockbridge Stadium tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Alcovy’s season opening victory over Newton seems like a long time ago. The Tigers (1-2, 0-1 Region 4AAAA) are searching for their first region win. Coming into the season, Alcovy coach Kirk Hoffman knew it wouldn’t be easy. But three games into the 2008, the Tigers are looking for answers on offense as they have scored just two offensive touchdowns in their first three games.
Despite playing very well defensively, Alcovy will have to get contributions from its passing game as the season progresses. Tonight’s game might be a good place to start.
Alcovy’s quarterback through the first three games, P.J. Thompkins, has been sidelined throughout the week with a high ankle sprain and is doubtful for tonight’s game. If Thompkins can’t go, Rod Tolen is poised to get his first start. With only one passing touchdown on the year, the Tigers may get a boost from the change.
