Wheeler Funeral Home & Crematory Mr. James W. Gordy, 80, of Covington, formerly of DeKalb County, died Sept. 18. The son of the late James Raleigh and Ulma Ellis Gordy, he was born in Bulloch County in 1927. Mr. Gordy served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He owned and operated Gordy Tile Company for many years.
Surviving are wife Mrs. Blanche Gordy; children Cynthia and Robert Teal of Jasper, Steven R. and Diana Gordy of Covington, Patricia and Paul Roach of Loganville, James Alan and Teresa Gordy of Conyers; brother Mr. Rufus L. Gordy of Snellville; grandchildren Drew, Travis, Krista, Jenny, Stephanie, Sean, Tori, Lexi, Mike, Ricky, Robby, Paul, Casey, Kristen; four great- grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 21, in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Compton officiating. Entombment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
