Oxford blanks Gordon College 4-0
The Oxford women’s soccer team chalked up an impressive win Thursday with a 4-0 shutout over Gordon College.
Hannah Hooten kept up her torrid season, scoring two goals while Taylor Tyger and Jenna Joyave chipped in with a goal apiece.
Hooten opened up the scoring when she converted a penalty kick in the second minute to give the Lady Eagles the early 1-0 lead.
Joyave made it 2-0 after she put a long crossing pass on goal that found the back of the net in the 27th minute.
Oxford dominated the ball through-
kept the ball on the opposing side of really gave Gordon College an opportunity to score.
“We want to make our opponents chase the score,” Oxford coach Jim Robbins said. “We’ve been preaching all year. We want to get up on everybody. We’ve been preaching to get a let them chase us.”
The Lady Eagles returned to the intensity, but failed to score until the 88th minute when Tyger took a nice through ball from Arielle Hayden
then beat the keeper to score Oxford’s third goal.
Not to be outdone, Hooten beat the middle defender one minute later then scored from 18-yards out to cap the shutout.

Oxford has several chances as the Highlanders had trouble clearing the ball. The Lady

Megan Hampel came up with a nifty save in the 82nd minute as she thwarted a Highlander break-a-way attempt. She chose to attack the ball and was rewarded with the save to preserve the shutout.
With the win, the Lady eagles moved to 7-2 with their only two losses coming at the hands of ranked opponents. sits right now but he knows there is still work to do.
