County faring better than other metro areas
Nearly two weeks after Hurricane Ike disrupted shipments of gasoline from oil refineries in Louisiana and Texas, many local gas stations are still out of gas completely or only have premium fuel.
Many gas station price display signs in downtown Covington were still blank on Tuesday.
“There’s no question that we are still in catch up mode and will be for a while until the oil companies are back at full capacity,” said Jim Tudor, a Newton County resident and the president of the Georgia Association of Convenience Stores.
