Area gas sta­tions run­ning on empty

Nearly two weeks af­ter Hur­ri­cane Ike dis­rupted ship­ments of gaso­line from oil re­finer­ies in Louisiana and Texas, many lo­cal gas sta­tions are still out of gas com­pletely or only have pre­mium fuel.

Many gas sta­tion price dis­play signs in down­town Cov­ing­ton were still blank on Tues­day.

“There’s no ques­tion that we are still in catch up mode and will be for a while un­til the oil com­pa­nies are back at full ca­pac­ity,” said Jim Tu­dor, a New­ton County res­i­dent and the pres­i­dent of the Ge­or­gia As­so­ci­a­tion of Con­ve­nience Stores.
