Landowners asking area by Alcovy River be rezoned as industrial
A proposed industrial development in Newton County has drawn criticism from environmentalists, who question its location in an environmentally sensitive area of the Alcovy River watershed.
The Hazelbrand Road Industrial Park is still in the initial planning phase. It is intended to be a 2.5 million square-foot industrial park located on 214 acres of land next to SKC Inc.
Landowners Gil Gainer, J.S. Gainer Jr. and Essie Greer have applied for annexation into the city of Covington and for an industrial rezoning.
Because of the project’s scale and potential impact, it is required to go through a Development of Regional Impact with the Northeast Georgia Regional Development Center. A hearing on the project took place
