RIDE FOR THE CURE
Courtesy Ford hosts motorcycle ride, breast cancer research fundraiser
Although Courtesy Ford Lincoln Mercury doesn’t sell motorcycles, dozens will line up at the dealership in Conyers Oct. 4 for the company’s second cancer fundraiser and first Bike Ride for the Cure.
Because October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Courtesy employees have organized an enjoyable fundraiser from which all proceeds will go toward the breast cancer research efforts of the Susan B. Komen Foundation.
Motorcyclists can pre- register for the ride at Courtesy Ford for $ 25 or the day of from 9 a. m. to 10: 30 a. m. for $ 30. All riders will receive a T- shirt and a doo- rag.
“ Riders will leave at 11 a. m. on a 75- mile ride through the Rockdale and Newton county countryside to end up back at Courtesy,” said Peggy Mason, Courtesy warranty administrator.
Mason said participants can register a second rider such as a spouse for no charge.
“ We’re all really excited about it,” Mason said.
In addition to the ride, Courtesy has scheduled a few local bands to provide entertainment in front of the dealership’s showroom and invited 30 to 40 local vendors to set up booths for the event. Vendors include businesses such as Chick- fil- A, Shane’s Rib Shack and Italian Ice.
“ Each vendor has to provide and item to be raffled off,” Mason said.
Raffle items range from gift baskets to baseball bats signed by Atlanta Braves players. Tickets for the raffle cost $ 1.
the younger crowd will be provided as well.
“ We’ll kind of have a carnival set up for the kids with carnival games, inflatables and a dunking booth,” Mason said. “ Several of our employees are going to get soaked.
“ It’s going to be so much fun.”
Mason said last year’s event, which did not include the bike ride, raised only about $ 2,500 because employees planned it in about two weeks after a couple of family members were diagnosed. She said Courtesy’s goal this year is to raise $ 25,000.
“At some point cancer has affected everybody,” Mason said, “ whether it’s their mother, brother, spouse or themselves.”
