Saxophone concert on the square

The Covington News - - Newton at play -

When Angélla Christie plays the saxophone, she plays not just to entertain audiences, but also to reach out and up.

At times rollicking and at times reflective, her music takes an instrument and a sound normally associated with secular smooth jazz, into the contemporary gos- pel arena. The resulting combination is a natural fit.

“ She is very, very talented,” said Michelle Johnson, the Arts Association’s marketing director. She described the Lithonia native and New Birth Missionary Baptist church member as a very contemporary artist. “ She has become internationally recognized.”

This Friday at 7 p. m., Christie will be headlining on the Covington square as part of the Newton County Arts Association season. Admission is free.
