Teen shot in back Tues­day

In­ves­ti­ga­tors say vic­tim un­able to speak af­ter surgery

A 19-year-old New­ton County teen was shot in the back dur­ing a rob­bery Tues­day night and is now un­able to speak af­ter go­ing through surgery ac­cord­ing to in­ves­ti­ga­tors from the New­ton County Sher­iff’s Of­fice.

The young man, whose iden­tity has been with­held, was re­port­edly stand­ing out­side of a res­i­dence on Hunter’s Trace at roughly 10:15 p.m. Tues­day night, lean­ing in­side the win­dow of a ve­hi­cle oc­cu­pied by two other peo­ple when two black males ap­proached the group and or­dered every­one on the ground. Ac­cord­ing to NCSO Lt. Bill Wat­ter­son, all three com­plied and one of the vic­tims had their wal­let taken. The 19-year-old was re­port­edly shot in the back as he lay on the ground.

Neigh­bors in the area re­port­edly called au­thor­i­ties af­ter hear­ing the gun­shots and when in­ves­ti­ga­tors re­sponded they found the vic­tim. The young man was life flighted to At­lanta Med­i­cal Cen­ter where he un­der­went surgery and was listed in sta­ble but crit­i­cal con­di­tion. As of press time, how­ever, the in­ves­ti­ga­tion was at a stand­still be­cause the vic­tim was un­able to speak, ac­cord­ing to in­ves­ti­ga­tor Bob Gaddy who spoke with the young man’s doc­tors.

Gaddy also noted that in­ves­ti­ga­tors have no sus­pects in the shoot­ing at this time, but are ask­ing that any­one with in­for­ma­tion con­tact him at the NCSO at ( 678) 625- 1429. All callers can re­main anony­mous.
