A 56-year-old grandfather was arrested late Monday morning after he reportedly arrived at a rendezvous point where he thought he was meeting a 13-year-old girl he had met online.

According

to Newton County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Bill Watterson, Timothy Copeland Lunsford of Troy, Ala., had been speaking with an investigator he believed was a 13year-old girl for approximately one year on Yahoo messenger. During that time Lunsford allegedly had explicit conversations and sent explicit photographs to an investigator posing as the young girl.

A meeting was set up between Lunsford and the “girl” in the parking lot of a retail store in the area, since Lunsford was allegedly in the Atlanta area on business. Investigators watched as Lunsford reportedly rode around the area, but nev- er stopped at the designated spot. According to Watterson, after driving around the area Lunsford then exited the parking lot and drove onto I-20.

Once on the interstate Lunsford was pulled over and arrested without incident and taken to the Newton County Detention Center where he remains, as of press time, charged with electronic furnishing of obscene material, computer pornography and sexual exploitation of a child. Lunsford has no previous criminal history.
