John L. “ Rookie” Cordell

Fu­neral Home John L. “ Rookie Cordell, 82, of Cov­ing­ton, died Oct. 7. A World War II vet­eran, Mr. Cordell was an avid golfer and great base­ball player. He en­joyed play­ing the gui­tar and had a tal­ent for construction work. Mr. Cordell was a de­voted and loving hus­band, fa­ther, grand­fa­ther, un­cle and brother. He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents John and Lillie Hil­liard Cordell and step­son Ricky Phelps.

Sur­viv­ing are wife of 30 years Betty Cordell; daugh­ter Jeri Cordell of Lo­ganville; son and daugh­ter- in­law Jimmy and Terry Cordell of Peachtree City; stepchil­dren Bev­erly Clark, Vickie Steven­son, Jef­frey Phelps, Mark Phelps, all of Cov­ing­ton; grand­child Paden Cordell of Peachtree City; step- grand­chil­dren Crys­tal, Kel­lie, Bryan, Brooks, Brett, Tam­era; four great- grand­chil­dren; sis­ter Mrs. Jimmy ( Betty) Ed­wards; broth­ers Al­fred Cordell, James “ Bo” Cordell, all of Cov­ing­ton.

Fu­neral ser­vices will be held at 2 p. m. Thurs­day, Oct. 9, in the Ac­cess Road chapel of Cald­well & Cowan with the Rev. Jimmy Ed­wards of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment will fol­low in Lawn­wood Memo­rial Park. The fam­ily will re­ceive friends at the fu­neral home from 1 p. m. to 2 p. m. Oct. 9.

Lynn Hall Loyd of Cov­ing­ton, passed away Oct. 6, at the age of 60. Born at Craw­ford Long Hospi­tal in 1948, she at­tended Kirk­wood Ele­men­tary School and was a 1967 grad­u­ate of South­west Dekalb High School. An em­ployee with Litho­nia Lighting for 25 years, she en­joyed fish­ing, play­ing slot ma­chines, mak­ing her own mu­sic CD’s, and cook­ing — but above all, she loved spending time with her grand­chil­dren.

Mrs. Loyd was pre­ceded in death by her daugh­ter, Kandi Jeanette Mitchell; par­ents, James and Phyl­lis Jakes Hall; and her pet, Max.

Sur­vivors in­clude her hus­band, Ricky Loyd; son, Jay, and wife, Mary Mitchell of Clear­wa­ter, Fla., son, Ricky Loyd Jr. of Cov­ing­ton; grand­chil­dren, Michael, and wife, Suzy Mitchell of Nashville, Tenn., Sandie and Alex Mitchell of Clear­wa­ter, Fla.; great- grand­chil­dren, Fer­nando and Cris­tian Mitchell; sis­ter, Karen, and hus­band, Ron Wi­ley of Ox­ford; broth­ers, James, and wife, Mary Anne Hall of Hen­der­son­ville, N.C., Ge­orge, and wife, Roxie Hall of Ac­worth; pets, Shorty and Sweetie; lots of nieces and neph­ews.

Fu­neral Ser­vices for Mrs. Loyd will be held Thurs­day, Oct. 9 11 a.m., at the Chapel of Cald­well and Cowan, 1215 Ac­cess Rd., with Jim Stokes of­fi­ci­at­ing, and in­ter­ment fol­low­ing in Green Meadow Memo­rial Gar­dens. The fam­ily will re­ceive friends at the fu­neral home, to­day from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
