Lady Rams earn fourth seed in state sec­tion­als

McDonough — The New­ton Lady Rams soft­ball team earned the fourth seed go­ing into the state sec­tion­als next week af­ter drop­ping two-of-three games in the Re­gion 2-AAAAA sec­tional tour­na­ment at the Sandy Ridge soft­ball com­plex Tues­day.

The Lady Rams (10-15 over­all, 4-4 Re­gion 2-AAAAA) went up against the Greenbrier Lady Wolves (26-5 over­all, 7-1) in their first game of the tour­na­ment suf­fer­ing an 8-0 lost against the num­ber one team in Re­gion AAAAA.

Holly Springer took the mound for New­ton, giv­ing up eight runs on eight hits while strik­ing out three and walk­ing two bat­ters.

Al­though they recorded seven hits, the Lady Rams couldn’t give Springer any run sup­port as but they failed to get the ball out of the in­field with run­ners in scor­ing po­si­tion.

Katie Tracy fin­ished with eight strike­outs while giv­ing up seven hits and no walks to hold the Lady Rams score­less over six in­nings.
