Lady Rams earn fourth seed in state sectionals
McDonough — The Newton Lady Rams softball team earned the fourth seed going into the state sectionals next week after dropping two-of-three games in the Region 2-AAAAA sectional tournament at the Sandy Ridge softball complex Tuesday.
The Lady Rams (10-15 overall, 4-4 Region 2-AAAAA) went up against the Greenbrier Lady Wolves (26-5 overall, 7-1) in their first game of the tournament suffering an 8-0 lost against the number one team in Region AAAAA.
Holly Springer took the mound for Newton, giving up eight runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking two batters.
Although they recorded seven hits, the Lady Rams couldn’t give Springer any run support as but they failed to get the ball out of the infield with runners in scoring position.
Katie Tracy finished with eight strikeouts while giving up seven hits and no walks to hold the Lady Rams scoreless over six innings.
“Again our bats weren’t putting the ball in the gaps when we needed them to,” said Newton coach Jason LaChap-
