To prepare for “Fire Prevention Week” during the week of October 6-10, Piedmont Academy students in grades K3 and K5 had a special visit by the Jasper County Fire Department on Oct. 9.

Firefighters explained the importance of having a family fire safety plan, what to do if their home were to catch on fire and whom to call. The firefighters were dressed in their fireman’s suit for the students and explained all the “bells and whistles” associated with their attire along with the tools they use to fight a fire.

Afterwards, the students were given a demonstration of lights and sirens of the fire truck and the many different types of calls firefighters handle every day. At the conclusion of the program, the students were given “Junior Fire Fighter” badges and fire helmets.
