WDC to host breast cancer forum
Lisa McWilliams, Clinical Manager of The Women’s Diagnostic Center will be giving out information and mammogram coupons at local businesses and physicians’ offices through the end of October.
“ We are inviting those who need information about breast health and financial resources for mammography to the Warriors for Hope Forum and Luncheon on Oct. 22,” McWilliams said.
The forum, the second installment in a series of four forums, is a joint effort of the WDC and the American Cancer Society to educate women on the importance of early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
“ We want women to know about the resources that are available to them,” McWilliams said. “ In addition to having superior diagnostic and treatment services, we offer comfort measures and emotional support to women who are facing the diagnosis of breast cancer.”
WDC volunteers Kay Goff and Wendi Martinez together with Kat Johnson are all breast cancer survivors and know first hand the importance of emotional support.
“ We are so fortunate to have these exceptional ladies who are so dedicated to helping other women,” McWilliams said.
Goff, Martinez, and Johnson are involved in the operation of The Hope Boutique that offers patients free wigs, turbans, scarves and breast prostheses. The Boutique, located inside the WDC, is a place where patients receive understanding and hope. They also coordinate monthly support group meetings and help McWilliams organize the annual Portraits of Hope Celebration.
“ We must all work together to fight this disease,” said McWilliams. To schedule a mammogram, please call ( 770) 385.7800.
