Lady Tigers fall twice in re­gion­als

Al­covy High School com­peted in the first half of Re­gion 4-AAAA tour­na­ment Oct. 16, fail­ing to ad­vance to the fi­nals af­ter two loses.

Led by cap­tain se­nior Malaceo Ivey and coach Amanda Briggs, ju­niors Leah An­der­son and Ashley Ja­cob­son led the Tigers in the first game. Se­nior Ebony Pa­trick ended the sec­ond game against North Clay­ton High School with kills that brought the girls to a close score, los­ing 17-25.

"We are a work in progress. The play­ers have stepped it up ex­tremely since sum­mer con­di­tion­ing and the start of the sea­son. Ev­ery year we have made an im­prove­ment. The first year we had no wins, last year we had six, and this year we had eight," said Briggs on her team’s im­prove­ment. “All of the play­ers have par­tic­u­lar po­si­tions that they must play. There are 24 play­ers that when play­ing must make a move at any given time. They have be­come so much bet­ter."

In the first game of the tour­ney against Jones­boro high School, sopho­more Ashley Grant dug in for many suc­cess­ful spikes and sur­pris­ing ace. In the sec­ond game, se­nior Molly Rice along with se­nior Court­ney Keaton and sopho­more Holly Oakes fo­cused on team work and pass­ing.
