Lady Tigers fall twice in regionals
Alcovy High School competed in the first half of Region 4-AAAA tournament Oct. 16, failing to advance to the finals after two loses.
Led by captain senior Malaceo Ivey and coach Amanda Briggs, juniors Leah Anderson and Ashley Jacobson led the Tigers in the first game. Senior Ebony Patrick ended the second game against North Clayton High School with kills that brought the girls to a close score, losing 17-25.
"We are a work in progress. The players have stepped it up extremely since summer conditioning and the start of the season. Every year we have made an improvement. The first year we had no wins, last year we had six, and this year we had eight," said Briggs on her team’s improvement. “All of the players have particular positions that they must play. There are 24 players that when playing must make a move at any given time. They have become so much better."
In the first game of the tourney against Jonesboro high School, sophomore Ashley Grant dug in for many successful spikes and surprising ace. In the second game, senior Molly Rice along with senior Courtney Keaton and sophomore Holly Oakes focused on team work and passing.
