So­cial Cir­cle boys, girls drop home open­ers

So­cial Cir­cle fans left the gym dis­ap­pointed Satur­day night af­ter watch­ing their var­sity bas­ket­ball teams lose home open­ers to ri­val Mon­roe Area.

The boys (0-2) were blown out 81-48 while the Lady Red­skins (0-2) were de­feated 58-48.

Josh Smith from Mon­roe Area (34) led all scor­ers with 19 points and was one of four Mon­roe play­ers to score in dou­ble dig­its.

Aaron Gaither led So­cial Cir­cle with 14 points while Todd Hardge scored 11.

The Lady Hur­ri­canes (2-4) were led in part by Lakeisha Spikes and Nicole Thur­mond who had 10 points each. Sher­mika Har­ris was the Lady Red­skins' top scorer with 11 points.

Hardge kept the score tight early in the sec­ond pe­riod af­ter he scored six unan­swered points for So­cial Cir­cle, but the half ended with Mon­roe lead­ing 33-26.

It went down­hill fast for the Red­skins in the third frame. The Red­skins couldn't make shots and got into foul trou­ble while Mon­roe scored at will.

By the end of the third pe­riod, So­cial Cir­cle trailed Mon­roe 62-35.
