Crime Briefs Crim­i­nals steal McDon­ald’s char­ity box

New­ton County Sher­iff Deputies re­sponded to a call Dec. 9 at the McDon­ald’s restau­rant on Crow­ell Road af­ter em­ploy­ees dis­cov­ered a char­ity coin col­lec­tion box had been stolen and an­other had been dam­aged.

Ac­cord­ing to the re­port, the boxes, which were lo­cated in the drive–through win­dow, were stolen be­tween 1:30 and 4:30 a.m. The value of each box is es­ti­mated to be about $100.

Woman ar­rested at Wal-Mart

Of­fi­cers at the Cov­ing­ton Po­lice Depart­ment ar­rested a woman Dec. 10 for steal­ing items from the Wal-Mart Su­per­center on In­dus­trial Boule­vard.

Ac­cord­ing to an in­ci­dent re­port, Raven Rus­sell grabbed a coat and a purse, re­moved the tags, dressed in the pieces and filched ad­di­tional items, which she put in the stolen bag.

The stolen items were re­turned to Wal-Mart. Rus­sell was ar­rested and charged with shoplift­ing.

Di­vine pro­tec­tion

Mem­bers at New­ton Bap­tist Church didn’t know why their church’s roof was leak­ing, that was un­til they dis­cov­ered it was caused by a bul­let hole.

Ac­cord­ing to the in­ci­dent re­port, the roof be­gan leak­ing be­tween Nov. 23 and Nov. 30. When the con­trac­tor checked the roof Dec.9 for the source of the leak, the bul­let hole was dis­cov­ered.

Cur­rently, no sus­pects have been in­den­ti­fied.
