Newton County farmer, businessman named “Friend of the County Agent”
Sam Hay, Sr., was presented the “Friend of the County Agent” award at the Georgia Association of County Agricultural Agents’ annual improvement conference in Gainesville, Ga.
This award is the highest honor that county agents present to a supporter of their association.
“Mr. Hay has been a long time supporter of the organization, and we appreciate his willingness to help us,” said Ted Wynne, Newton County extension agent.
Not only has Hay been a personal supporter and sponsor of Extension activities, his family has been active in 4-H activities including project achievement, youth leadership and cattle shows.
Hay joins a long list of award winners dating back to 1972, including two fellow Newton Countians: Mr. Fred Greer in 1987 and Mr. Mort Ewing in 1992.
A framed Norman Rockwell painting of the “County Agent” is presented to Sam Hay while family members look on. Left to Right: Keith Lassiter, GACCA President, Mickey Fourakers, past president, Sam Hay Jr., Sam Hay Sr., Louly Hay, and Paul Wigley, past president.
