New­ton County farmer, busi­ness­man named “Friend of the County Agent”

Sam Hay, Sr., was pre­sented the “Friend of the County Agent” award at the Ge­or­gia As­so­ci­a­tion of County Agri­cul­tural Agents’ an­nual im­prove­ment con­fer­ence in Gainesville, Ga.

This award is the high­est honor that county agents present to a sup­porter of their as­so­ci­a­tion.

“Mr. Hay has been a long time sup­porter of the or­ga­ni­za­tion, and we ap­pre­ci­ate his will­ing­ness to help us,” said Ted Wynne, New­ton County ex­ten­sion agent.

Not only has Hay been a per­sonal sup­porter and spon­sor of Ex­ten­sion ac­tiv­i­ties, his fam­ily has been ac­tive in 4-H ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing project achieve­ment, youth lead­er­ship and cat­tle shows.

Hay joins a long list of award win­ners dat­ing back to 1972, in­clud­ing two fel­low New­ton Coun­tians: Mr. Fred Greer in 1987 and Mr. Mort Ewing in 1992.
