3 schol­ar­ships named for Dekalb Tech dean

An un­sus­pect­ing DeKalb Tech­ni­cal Col­lege Dean of Aca­demic Op­er­a­tions, Ju­lian Wade, was re­cently hon­ored in At­lanta by the As­so­ci­a­tion of In­for­ma­tion Tech­nol­ogy Pro­fes­sion­als ( AITP) by award­ing three schol­ar­ships for stu­dents in his name.

The three Ju­lian P. Wade schol­ar­ships are avail­able to full-time un­der­grad­u­ate or grad­u­ate stu­dents who are AITP Stu­dent Chap­ter mem­bers in good stand­ing and pur­su­ing stud­ies in in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy. The amount of each schol­ar­ship is $ 300 for one year and will be awarded in April 2009.

The honor rec­og­nized Wade’s stand­ing of 23years per­fect AITP chap­ter meet­ing at­ten­dance and his amaz­ing ser­vice as an com­mu­nity stew­ard, men­tor, and leader. Dean Wade is cur­rent Pres­i­dent of Re­gion 7 AITP and past Chap­ter Pres­i­dent and Re­gion Trea­surer.

“ This is won­der­ful news,” says Dr. Tanya Gor­man, Vice Pres­i­dent of Aca­demic Af­fairs at DeKalb Tech­ni­cal Col­lege. “ Dean Wade is ded­i­cated and most de­serv­ing of this recog­ni­tion.”

AITP At­lanta Chap­ter is the lo­cal chap­ter of the na­tional As­so­ci­a­tion of In­for­ma­tion Tech­nol­ogy Pro­fes­sion­als ( AITP), which com­prises mem­bers at all lev­els and roles within the IT in­dus­try in­clud­ing CIOs, Se­nior Man­agers, Project De­liv­ery, Ser­vice De­liv­ery, Soft­ware De­vel­op­ment, Ven­dors and Con­sul­tants.

The as­so­ci­a­tion has a strong bond with aca­demic in­sti­tu­tions, and in­cludes many af­fil­i­ated Stu­dent Chap­ters. A found­ing prin­ci­ple of the as­so­cia- tion is to sup­port pro­fes­sional de­vel­op­ment within the IT com­mu­nity, and in sup­port of this of­fers men­tor­ing and lead­er­ship to as­sist stu­dents to be­come IT pro­fes­sion­als.

The At­lanta AITP chap­ter has been serv­ing com­puter and in­for­ma­tion re­lated pro­fes­sion­als in At­lanta for over fifty years. Spon­sor­ship of AITP stu­dent chap­ters in­cludes Amer­i­can In­tercon­ti­nen­tal Uni­ver­sity, Chat­ta­hoochee Tech­ni­cal Col­lege, DeKalb Tech­ni­cal Col­lege, Ge­or­gia Col­lege and State Uni­ver­sity, Ge­or­gia South­ern Uni­ver­sity, Gwin­nett Tech­ni­cal Col­lege, Lanier Tech­ni­cal Col­lege, South­ern Polytech­nic State Uni­ver­sity and West­ern Carolina Uni­ver­sity.
