3 scholarships named for Dekalb Tech dean
An unsuspecting DeKalb Technical College Dean of Academic Operations, Julian Wade, was recently honored in Atlanta by the Association of Information Technology Professionals ( AITP) by awarding three scholarships for students in his name.
The three Julian P. Wade scholarships are available to full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are AITP Student Chapter members in good standing and pursuing studies in information technology. The amount of each scholarship is $ 300 for one year and will be awarded in April 2009.
The honor recognized Wade’s standing of 23years perfect AITP chapter meeting attendance and his amazing service as an community steward, mentor, and leader. Dean Wade is current President of Region 7 AITP and past Chapter President and Region Treasurer.
“ This is wonderful news,” says Dr. Tanya Gorman, Vice President of Academic Affairs at DeKalb Technical College. “ Dean Wade is dedicated and most deserving of this recognition.”
AITP Atlanta Chapter is the local chapter of the national Association of Information Technology Professionals ( AITP), which comprises members at all levels and roles within the IT industry including CIOs, Senior Managers, Project Delivery, Service Delivery, Software Development, Vendors and Consultants.
The association has a strong bond with academic institutions, and includes many affiliated Student Chapters. A founding principle of the associa- tion is to support professional development within the IT community, and in support of this offers mentoring and leadership to assist students to become IT professionals.
The Atlanta AITP chapter has been serving computer and information related professionals in Atlanta for over fifty years. Sponsorship of AITP student chapters includes American Intercontinental University, Chattahoochee Technical College, DeKalb Technical College, Georgia College and State University, Georgia Southern University, Gwinnett Technical College, Lanier Technical College, Southern Polytechnic State University and Western Carolina University.
