Cham­ber to host health care fo­rum

On June 29 Ryan Mahoney, di­rec­tor of pub­lic pol­icy for the Ge­or­gia Cham­ber of Com­merce, will speak to Newton County busi­nesses on the im­pact of the fed­eral health care re­form bill and how it af­fects them as em­ploy­ers and their em­ploy­ees; in­clud­ing the time­line­forim­ple­men­ta­tion, the changes in cov­er­age and com­pli­ance, and how the cost will be cov­ered through penal­ties and tax­a­tion.

Mahoney serves as the voice for Ge­or­gia’s busi­ness com­mu­nity at the state cap­i­tal and in Washington, D.C. In his role as di­rec­tor of pub­lic pol­icy, Mahoney leads strate­gic devel­op­ment and ex­e­cu­tion of cham­ber ini­tia­tives in trans­porta­tion, health care, ed­u­ca­tion and other pol­icy ar­eas. He also ad­vises the Ge­or­gia Cham­ber on me­dia re­la­tions and pub­lic af­fairs, and ap­pears as a guest com­men­ta­tor on the Ge­or­gia Gang on FOX 5 At­lanta.

“The new health care re­form bill af­fects ev­ery­one, from the largest com­pany to the small­est. As the ad­vo­cate for busi­nesses in Newton County, the Cham­ber of Com­merce wants to ed­u­cate and in­form,” said Lisa Oglesby, di­rec­tor of pro­grams for the Cov­ing- ton/Newton County Cham­ber of Com­merce. “We are pleased that our cham­ber can bring Ryan to Newton County to speak on health care re­form.”

The event will take place at the Ge­or­gia Perime­ter Col­lege Au­di­to­rium, lo­cated at 239 Cedar Lane, from 8:30 a.m. un­til 10 a.m. This event is spon­sored in part by Gos­sage In­surance Ad­vi­sors and Pied­mont In­surance and will be free to all at­ten­dees.
