EDITOR'S NOTE

The Covington News - - Front page -

Thursday is Veterans Day, a time to honor those who have served America in the armed forces throughout the years. We’re honoring all veterans, but The Covington News is giving a special salute to the veterans of World War II. There were 16 million Americans who fought in the war, and there are less than 2 million left with us today, according to information from the National World War II Museum. Today, we share stories from three of them from Newton County. We also have a list of those who served from Newton County from the National World War II Memorial (www.wwiimemorial.com), and information on Honor Flight, a program that provides free trips to veterans of the second World War to Washington to visit the war memorial and other sites. See page 2A for a sampling of local Veteran's Day activities
