Cov­ing­ton, So­cial Cir­cle plan events for Nov. 11

Cer­e­monies will be held in Cov­ing­ton and So­cial Cir­cle on Thurs­day to mark Vet­er­ans Day.

U. S. Army Lt. Col. Bill Love is the fea­tured speaker for the Cov­ing­ton cer­e­mony, to be held at 11 a. m. Thurs­day on the square. The Cov­ing­ton res­i­dent has been de­ployed sev­eral times to Iraq and Afghanistan, ac­cord­ing to Ter­rell Moore, com­man­der of Amer­i­can Le­gion Post 32.

The East­side High School band will play for the event and Newton High School’s Ju­nior Ma­rine ROTC will present the col­ors. Some seat­ing will be avail­able.

There’s also an ob­ser­vance at 10 a. m. Thurs­day at Lawn­wood Me­mo­rial Park, 1111 Ac­cess Road, spon­sored by the Vet­er­ans of For­eign Wars Post 2938.

In So­cial Cir­cle, pro­grams will be held at 9: 15 a. m. at the So­cial Cir­cle Ele­men­tary School gym, and at 1: 30 p. m. in the So­cial Cir­cle Mid­dle School gym, with a theme of “ Medals of Honor.”

Pa­tri­otic mu­sic and songs will be per­formed and the North Ge­or­gia Col­lege and State Uni­ver­sity’s Blue Ridge Ri­fle drill team will also be fea­tured. Re­fresh­ments will be pro­vided at the end of each pro­gram.

At Cousins Mid­dle School, the Vet­er­ans Day ob­ser­vance will be­gin at 9 a. m. with the play­ing of “ Taps.”

Names of friends and fam­ily who served in the mil­i­tary will be placed on the Wall of Hon­ored Ser­vice that will be on dis­play in the front foyer. The names will be read aloud at the cer­e­mony.
