Newton completed the season sweep of Heritage Tuesday with a 51-48 victory.

Alex Ordu's runner with 12 seconds left put the Rams up one and D.Q. Jackson missed a layup for Heritage with two seconds remaining. Ordu snagged the rebound and knocked down two free throws to put the game on ice.

The Rams rebounded from a poor showing from the free throw line over the holiday break to go 13-for-17 from the stripe.

Derrick Henry was particularly good, going 7 for 8. Henry finished with 14 points.

Justin Thompson scored all of his 11 points in the first half. Thompson hit two threes in the first quarter and kept Newton in the game early. He finished with three from downtown.

Newton also held the edge in rebounding. The Rams corralled 14 offensive rebounds to Heritage's seven and outrebounded the Patriots 35-27 overall.

Heritage took the lead at 48-47 on Dezan Gibby's three inside of a minute to play. Newton worked the ball down and Ordu hit a running jumper in the lane near the free throw line.

The Patriots had a chance to win when Jackson slipped by the Rams defense on his way to the basket. But he lost balance along the way and missed the layup.

Twon Wade led the way for Heritage with 14. Gibby had 11 and Jackson finished with 10.

Ordu finished with 13 points, 10 assists and four rebounds. Willie Smith scored eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
