Edward Berry deRastick Hanson
The Rev. Edward Berry deRastrick Hanson, Episcopal priest of the Atlanta Diocese, died Jan. 19 after a courageous struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. Father Hanson attended the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, graduated from Georgia State University and received a Master of Divinity from The University of the South. His parishes included St. Michael and All Angels, St. Matthews and the Church of the Good Shepherd.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Timberlake Russell, sister Adelaide Berry Hanson, daughter Colleen Berry Horner (Matthew), grandson Nathan Berry Horner, Grace Allstrom, Tyler (Christine), Caitlin and Richard Russell and devoted friends.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 23, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, Monroe. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hopsice Atlanta (Park Vista Dr.) or Atlanta Community Food Bank. The Covington News,

Jackie Simmons Caldwell & Cowan
Jackie Simmons, 54, of Covington, passed away Jan. 18. Mr. Simmons enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved attending gospel singings. Most important to him was his family. He was preceded in death by his parents William Carlton and Martha Elizabeth (Johnson) Simmons, brother David Simmons and nephew Shane Simmons.
Survivors include his wife Wanda (McCart) Simmons of Covington; sons and daughter-inlaw Jackie Simmons Jr., Charles and Brittany Simmons, all of Covington; sister and brother-in-law Brenda and Larry Kirkman of Lilburn; brothers and sisters-in-law Billy and RoseMerry Simmons, Lanier and Gail Simmons, all of Covington, Danny and Marie Simmons of Monticello, Hughie and Kathy Simmons of McDonough; grandchildren Jada Simmons, Krista Simmons, Kaleb Simmons, Barrett Hunt, C.J. Simmons; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Simmons will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd St., with Pastor Jeff Jacobs and Pastor Ron Compton officiating, and interment following in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, McDonough.
