Cov­ing­ton Y Pi­ra­nhas cap­ture sec­ond straight Rock­dale ti­tle

For a sec­ond straight year, swim­mers from the Cov­ing­ton YMCA can call them­selves the best in the area. The Cov­ing­ton Y Pi­ra­nhas topped the six-team meet and cap­tured the Rock­dale swim league cham­pi­onship for the sec­ond time in as many years.

The Pi­ra­nhas, com­prised of 102 lo­cal swim­mers, got off to a fast start in the morn­ing session. The 10 and un­der age group swam cir­cles around the competition and built a 200-point lead over sec­ond place Deer Run. The older 11 and up age groups swam in the af­ter­noon with the Y swim­mers con­tin­u­ing to score points by fin­ish­ing in the top eight in their events.

Went the wa­ter set­tled at the end of the meet, the Cov­ing­ton Y fin­ished ahead of Deer Run and third place Brent­wood who took sec­ond and third re­spec­tively.

Sev­eral swim­mers turned in stel­lar in­di­vid­ual per­for- mances in­clud­ing Colton Pat­ter­son and Kaden Far­ley who fin­ished first in the 5 & 6 and 7 & 8 boys groups re­spec­tively. Pay­ton Mor­ri­son and Liam Am­man placed sec­ond in those same groups and Nick Mitchell placed third in the 7 & 8 group. Ella King placed third in the 5 & 6 year old girls group while Emma Kate Leach and Emer­ald Gibbs took third in the 7 & 8 and 9 & 10 girls groups.

In the af­ter­noon session, Joey Ell­wanger and Jack Mitchell took first and sec­ond in the boys 15 & over age group while Dy­lan Weathersby placed third in the 13 & 14 age group.

The Rock­dale swim league con­tin­ues to grow. This year’s meet saw more than 400 swim­mers and six teams.
