Tien, who is from Hillsborough, N.J., was selected after achieving a 3.75 cumulative GPA. Continuing on to the Atlanta campus and Emory College, he plans to pursue a double major in mathematics and economics.

At Oxford he was a member of Alpha Epsilon Upsilon academic honor society and was an Oxford Research Scholar in economics. He was also selected as a supplementary instructor in calculus.

At the Oxford College athletics banquet held in spring 2011, Tien received the Oxford Athletics Dean’s Award, given to the student who best exemplifies the ideal of a student-athlete through outstanding academic success.

In an additional category, All-Academic Team designation, the Oxford College men’s basketball team was second among all NJCAA basketball teams with a 3.24 GPA, and the Oxford women's tennis team, current NJCAA Division III champions, was also named to the All-Academic Team.

Roderick Stubbs, head coach for men’s basketball, said, “I am very proud of both accomplishments. Our student-athletes did very well in the classroom and deserve to be recognized for their efforts.”
