Nearly three weeks after the county officially chose to maintain its 10.91 millage rate, county department heads continue to explore cuts. They have a Monday deadline to present final budgets to the chairman’s office.

Chairman Kathy Morgan said Friday she expects the personnel cuts will be minimal, with the hardest hit departments, such as public works, losing a few employees at most. If possible, vacated positions, are being left unfilled, and employees are being cross trained at every opportunity.

If departments need to share an employee in order to keep costs down, they’re doing that.
