Lo­cal ath­lete qual­i­fies for AAU ju­nior Olympics

Ben Kennedy, 15, of the South­east Strid­ers Track and Field Club, com­peted in the USA Youth Track and Field Na­tion­als June 28 through July 3 in Myr­tle Beach, S.C.

He won a fourth place medal in the triple jump and sixth place metal in the long jump. He also qual­i­fied to com­pete in the USATF Jr. Olympic Re­gion­als held July 9 in the javelin throw and qual­i­fied in the AAU Na­tional Jr. Olympics held in New Or­leans in Au­gust in the javelin throw and triple jump.

The South­east Strid­ers is based in Cov­ing­ton and is coached by B. J. Kennedy, Ben’s fa­ther, and Eric Barnes. B.J. Kennedy is a deputy with the New­ton County Sher­iff’s Of­fice.
