In-law strikes out with bat
A woman called for help late Sunday after she had been hit in the head with a bat.
The victim told deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office that her stepmother, 39-year-old Bernadene Lebert Davis, had hit her in the forehead with a baseball bat following a domestic dispute at their home.
Deputies went to the home on Helm Drive and arrested Davis, charging her with Family Violence Act battery.
Woman calls in false report for a ride
Deputies called to a home for an assault with a weapon found only an intoxicated woman who wanted a ride.
According to reports, 56-year-old Jannie Newberry called 911 and told dispatchers that a man had shot into her home and assaulted her. When deputies arrived, they didn’t find a man with a gun, but they found Newberry “ extremely intoxicated and under the influence of multiple substances,” according to 1st Lt. Mark Mitchell with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies determined that no assault had happened, but that Newberry wanted to leave the home and wanted deputies to give her a ride.
She was charged with false report of a crime.
