One arrested in ATM heist
Covington Police have arrested an Atlanta man in the theft of the ATM from Essex Bank early Wednesday.
Nathan E. Thomas, 44, has been charged with two counts of theft by taking and one count of criminal damage to property. He is hospitalized with injuries detectives believe were sustained during the theft.
Officers from the Covington Police Department found an abandoned red Dodge Ram truck and a forklift in nearby woods. The ATM, stolen from Essex Bank on Ga. Highway 142, was in the truck’s bed.
In a press release, Capt. Ken Malcom said the truck was stolen from a Gwinnett County location and the forklift from a location close to the bank.
The investigation continues.
“We believe there are definitely other people involved in this and we are still working to develop leads in order to make additional arrests,” Malcom said.
