Former Eastside golfer shows well at Ga. Amateur
The Georgia College golf program left its mark on the 90th Georgia Amateur Championship last weekend, as current, former and future Bobcats were all over the leaderboard. The group was led by former Bobcat Carter Collins, who took 13th at sevenover par.
Collins, now a coach at Division I Georgia South- ern University, was consistent with rounds of 71, 71, 73 and 72. He finished just three strokes out of the topfive at Cherokee Town and Country Club in Atlanta.
Rising junior Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) took 17th at 10-over par. An All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) First Team selection in 2011, Garrett shot an impressive four-round 290 on rounds of 71, 72, 72 and 76.
Rising sophomore Gavin Harper (Twin City, Ga.) took the 50th slot at plus-18, his best round being the second at a 73. Incoming freshman David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.) was 59th at plus-20, while rising junior Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) was 64th at plus-22.
Smith is a 2009 graduate who was a part of Eastside's golf team. He qualified for the U.S. Amateur a year ago and made the U.S. Public Links field this year.
