Li­brary to of­fer free ca­reer, course prac­tice tests,

Res­i­dents pre­par­ing to tackle aca­demic or ca­reer-ori­en­tated ex­ams will soon have an op­por­tu­nity to try their hand at free full-length prac­tice tests thanks to a new ser­vice pro­vided by the New­ton County Li­brary.

The li­brary, which has part­nered with Learning­ex­pressli­brary tm (Learn A Test), will be­gin of­fer­ing more than 700 up-to-date test prepa­ra­tion and skill­build­ing re­sources April 1 to help both stu­dents and adults.

“Stu­dents who want to get a GED or pre­pare for the SAT and ACT and job seek­ers can ben­e­fit a great deal from tak­ing these tests in ad­vance in­stead of pay­ing,” Lace Keaton, di­rec­tor of New­ton County Li­brary Sys­tem said.

Those in­ter­ested can stop by any county li­brary lo­ca­tion, the Cov­ing­ton, Porter Me­mo­rial or New­born branches and log on to a com­puter to ac­cess a bevy of prac­tice tests along with job-skills tu­to­ri­als. Res­i­dents can also log in from home by go­ing to www.new­ton­li­brary.org, click­ing on the Learn­ing Ex­press light­bulb and sign­ing in us­ing in­for- ma­tion pro­vided on their li­brary card.

The Learn A Test sys­tem is a sub­scrip­tion the li­brary ob­tained through the Porter Foun­da­tion grant and ini­ti­ated by li­brary of­fi­cials who wanted to pro­vide a ser­vice to lo­cals who are strug­gling to find jobs or job train­ing, said Keaton.

She also said there are ben­e­fits of on­line study guides ver­sus tan­gi­ble ones found at the li­brary. Res­i­dents will have ac­cess to study guides at any time ver­sus pre­vi­ously hav­ing to wait un­til the book be­came avail­able to check out.

Ca­reer prac­tice tests in­clude: nurs­ing, fire- fighter, po­lice of­fi­cer, para­medic, Al­lied Health­care, U.S. Cit­i­zen­ship, postal worker, cos­me­tol­ogy, real es­tate agent bro­ker ex­ams and many more. Users also have the op­tion of se­lect­ing from more than 130 e-book ti­tles to help learn­ers of all ages pre­pare.
