Le­gal forum open to public

The Know Your Rights Forum, a free and public le­gal ed­u­ca­tion pro­gram, will be of­fered at Beth­le­hem Bap­tist Church in Cov­ing­ton from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Satur­day.

The forum is aimed at ed­u­cat­ing the com­mu­nity about key le­gal con­cepts and pro­ce­dures re­gard­ing debtor’s rights, di­vorce, child sup­port, crim­i­nal pros­e­cu­tions and es­tate plan­ning.

The forum is hosted by the Newrock Le­gal So­ci­ety, a vol­un­teer mi­nor­ity bar as­so­ci­a­tion that serves Rock­dale and New­ton coun­ties.

Phinia Aten, at­tor­ney and pres­i­dent of NRLS, will mod­er­ate the forum fea­tur­ing sev­eral lo­cal at­tor­neys and guest speak­ers.

“The gen­eral

public should un­der­stand their ba­sic le­gal rights so that they can de­tect when their rights are be­ing re­spected or tram­pled and par­ties can more fully par­tic­i­pate in their cases,” said Aten.

The forum is co-spon­sored by Beth­le­hem Bap­tist Church, Al­pha Kappa Al­pha Soror­ity, Inc., Chi Tau Omega Chap­ter, the New­ton County NAACP and the New­ton County Sher­iff’s Of­fice.
