Woman hos­pi­tal­ized af­ter be­ing at­tacked at ho­tel

Cov­ing­ton po­lice spoke to a woman at the New­ton Med­i­cal Cen­ter on Tues­day night that said she was injured when an­other woman at­tacked her be­hind a ho­tel. The woman said on Sun­day night while stand­ing in the back park­ing lot of Cov­ing­ton Lodge lo­cated on City Pond Road, a woman named Teon­tea walked up to her and started yelling and push­ing her. She said as Teon­tea stepped back- wards, her foot slipped off the side­walk. She said Teon­tea then left. Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice re­port, the woman had sev­eral bruises on both of her arms.

She told of­fi­cers she did not want to press any charges be­cause she did not know Teon­tea’s last name. on U.S. High­way 278 told them Henry Chap­man tried to cash a check for $2,200.

The teller said when she no­ticed the sig­na­ture on the check did not match the sig­na­ture card on file with the bank, she im­me­di­ately con­tacted the owner of the ac­count and asked if he signed off on the check. The teller said the owner told her he did not sign the check and some­one stole a check from his check­book.

When po­lice asked Chap­man where he got the check, he told of­fi­cers he was walk­ing on Spring Street when a man drove up to him and asked him if he wanted to do some work. He said when he agreed, he did some work for the man and that the man dropped him off at the bank af­ter he wrote him a check. Chap­man was ar­rested and taken to the New­ton County De­ten­tion Cen­ter. He is charged with theft by re­ceiv­ing and forgery. a deputy re­sponded to a call about crim­i­nal dam­age to the prop­erty. The deputy noted that there ap­peared to be five point stars and pitch­forks sprayed on the road­way and sev­eral stop signs at Shadow Brook Way and Rock Ridge Court. No wit­nesses or sus­pects could be iden­ti­fied. The deputy took pic­tures of the dam­age. him her taxi fare. The driver said he picked up Scott from New­ton Gen­eral Hospi­tal on Sun­day morn­ing and drove her to a lo­ca­tion on Ga. High­way 36.

He said when he asked for the money for the trip, the woman gave him her birth cer­tifi­cate, so­cial se­cu­rity card and told him she would call him on Mon­day with the money. Ac­cord­ing to the re­port, the driver re­turned to Scott’s lo­ca­tion sev­eral times and she con­tin­ued to say she did not have the money. The driver said he would seek charges at the court­house.
