East­side, New­ton have op­po­site fates in Grif­fin

The New­ton Rams soft­ball team is still look­ing for its first win of the 2012 sea­son af­ter com­plet­ing two days of ac­tion this week­end.

The Rams fell 5-2 to Fayette County on Fri­day, be­fore play­ing three games in the Di­a­mond Clas­sic in Grif­fin Satur­day.

New­ton didn’t have too much suc­cess in Grif­fin, fall­ing 5-4 to Craw­ford County and 2-1 to Jack­son County be­fore a short­ened out­ing in its fi­nal game of the tour­na­ment.

Grif­fin de­feated the Rams 10-1 in five in­nings Satur­day, leav­ing New­ton look­ing to solve some early sea­son prob­lems when it trav­els to Her­itage to­day.

The Pa­tri­ots started off hot in their first two games, beat­ing Wood­land, Henry 6-3 on Thurs­day and then run-rul­ing New Manch­ester 15-0 Mon­day.

The Rams are cur­rently on an eight-game los­ing streak dat­ing back to the 2011 sea­son. New­ton fell in the fi­nal four games, los­ing 11-3 to Luella, 9-1 to New­nan and 6-1 and 9-1 to Lown­des to end its sea­son.

East­side be­gan its sea­son with a suc­cess­ful out­ing in the Di­a­mond Clas­sic in Grif­fin.

Af­ter de­feat­ing, Jack­son and Luella on Fri­day, the Ea­gles fell 5-4 to Lo­cust Grove, but re­bounded with two more wins Satur­day. East­side de­feated Fayette County 7-2 and fin­ished up the tour­na­ment with a 6-5 win over Ge­or­gia Mil­i­tary.

East­side will have some time off be­fore it con­tin­ues play and be­gins its Re­gion 8-AAAA sched­ule by host­ing Madi­son County Tues­day.
