Branin Burdette will no longer be Newton County’s zoning administrator.

Board of Commissioners Chairman Kathy Mor- gan made the announcement at Tuesday’s meeting as she thanked Burdette for his services to the county, saying he has done an excellent job.

Burdette’s last day with the county will be Aug. 29. He said he will move back to his hometown of Seattle, Wash. to take a new position as a zoning inspector.

Burdette said he previously worked for the city of Seattle for three years, but he was laid off. He said he was on a re-call list with the city, and they called him to inform him of an open position.

He has been working as a zoning administrator for Newton County since December 2010. He said he has enjoyed working for the county because it has given him the opportunity to learn how to write new codes and ordinances. Burdette said the county will advertise for a zoning inspector in a variety of ways. He said they will advertise locally, nationally and statewide on websites that revolve around zoning and planning. There is no word on when that process will begin.
