Wil­liams leads Al­covy’s of­fense

Hav­ing made the state playoffs two out of the last three years, the Al­covy Tigers will get the ball rolling on se­cur­ing yet an­other post­sea­son berth, start­ing with their opener against Jones County, Aug. 30.

Lead­ing the Tigers on of­fense this year will be se­nior quar­ter­back Marcus Wil­liams.

Be­hind Wil­liams in the back- field, will be for­mer All-Re­gional quar­ter­back and se­nior Cor­nell White who has been moved to the half­back po­si­tion.

With no re­turn­ing play­ers at the re­ceiver po­si­tions, the new group of re­ceivers, led by ju­nior Jaylin Penny will be more than ready for the chal­lenges that await them dur­ing the 2012 sea­son.

“Right now, we feel like we have a lot of depth there,” Al­covy coach Kirk Hoffman said. “Ju­nior re­ceiver Jaylin Penny will be start­ing. He’s done an out­stand­ing job for us.”

On the offensive line, the Tigers are pleased to have four out of five starters re­turn­ing.

With se­niors David Rash and Bret Dunn ac­com­pa­nied by ju­niors Ryan Adams and Cur­tiss Ben­ton, the Tigers ex­pe­ri­enced offensive line will be there to pro­vide the of­fense with an added level of vet­eran sta­bil­ity as they en­ter Class AAAAAA.
