Williams leads Alcovy’s offense
Having made the state playoffs two out of the last three years, the Alcovy Tigers will get the ball rolling on securing yet another postseason berth, starting with their opener against Jones County, Aug. 30.
Leading the Tigers on offense this year will be senior quarterback Marcus Williams.
Behind Williams in the back- field, will be former All-Regional quarterback and senior Cornell White who has been moved to the halfback position.
With no returning players at the receiver positions, the new group of receivers, led by junior Jaylin Penny will be more than ready for the challenges that await them during the 2012 season.
“Right now, we feel like we have a lot of depth there,” Alcovy coach Kirk Hoffman said. “Junior receiver Jaylin Penny will be starting. He’s done an outstanding job for us.”
On the offensive line, the Tigers are pleased to have four out of five starters returning.
With seniors David Rash and Bret Dunn accompanied by juniors Ryan Adams and Curtiss Benton, the Tigers experienced offensive line will be there to provide the offense with an added level of veteran stability as they enter Class AAAAAA.
