Porterdale Explorers have gone one step further in working to make their community a better place.

The Porterdale Explorers Adopt-A-Stream students are between the ages of 1520, and will be completing two full-day chemical and biological water testing classes on Sept. 22 and Oct. 6 at the local Georgia Wildlife Federation in Covington. The group has committed to testing the water at the Yellow River monthly, throughout 2013.

Along with testing water, the group is also setting a goal to get local businesses or individual sponsors on board to help with cost of the testing kits and chemicals, kayaks, canoes, paddles and life jackets for river access.

The group is also looking into getting assistance from other government divisions with providing a larger van for transportation and a kayak trailer for hauling boats.

Anyone interested in helping the Porterdale Explorers, should contact Porterdale Police Investigator Douglas Clifton at (770) 786-2226.
