The wife of a Rockdale County Sheriff's Office employee was arrested on Sunday after she drove a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu into her husband’s 2006 Dodge Charger Saturday night in Covington.

Public Information Officer Lt. Keith Crum with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office said Latoya Woods, 38, was arrested on Sunday, Sept. 2 for battery under the Fam- ily Violence Act, aggravated assault, leaving the scene of an accident and operating a vehicle with expired registration.

Crum said around 10:42 p.m. on Saturday, deputies responded to a call from Jerome Woods, 41, in reference to his estranged wife intentionally trying to wreck with him while he was in his vehicle at a residence located on Trelawney Place.

“He told the deputies that he was at an acquaintance’s house when he walked out- side and his estranged wife was driving at him at a high rate of speed,” Crum said. “He pulled back into the yard and he was followed by his wife and she caused a wreck.”

Crum said deputies tried to locate Woods but were unable to that night. He said they did make contact with neighbors who were witnesses to the incident. He said deputies made contact with her on Sunday and she was arrested.

Wood’s and his wife were previously arrested on Friday after fighting with each other at their Covington home. Deputy Cortney Morrison with the NCSO said the two got into a verbal altercation and threatened each other with a hammer because Woods’ wife thought he was having an affair.

Jerome Woods is currently on administrative leave with pay pending an internal investigation, according to a RCSO spokesperson. He was hired by the RCSO in November 2003 and mandated as an officer in 2005.
