The man who reportedly ingested drugs during a traffic stop, then attacked a Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy, has died.

The cause of 43-year-old Terry Dean Gore’s death is pending autopsy results by the state medical examiner; however, witnesses who saw Gore during the traffic stop Wednesday afternoon reportedly said Gore began acting odd just after swallowing what the deputy believed was drugs.

It all started with a traffic stop at the Marathon gas station on Ga. Highway 36 and Bypass around 12:30 p.m. A deputy pulled over a vehicle being driven by a white female with two white male passengers — one of which was Gore. When the deputy saw Gore ingesting the alleged drugs, he ordered him to stop and Gore ignored the request. Soon thereafter a physical altercation ensued.

During the altercation, the deputy pressed his panic alarm, alerting all officers — both county and city — that he needed help. According to NCSO Lt. Keith Crum, witnesses at the gas station also stepped in to assist the deputy in

the altercation with Gore.

Both Gore and the deputy were taken to the hospital, the deputy for injuries sustained during the fight. He was treated and released. Gore died Wednesday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the situation as a matter of protocol, and the sheriff’s office will also conduct its own internal investigation.

Gore was recently released from prison after serving a sentence for forgery. He was currently on parole. Gore also has prior prison sentences for receiving stolen goods and forgery in 2003 from Newton County and two 2008 stints served for violation of motor vehicle license/ plates and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine from Rockdale County.
