How much do you love God and why?

The psalmist cannot hold back from expressing his love to God and we should not be able to either. His reasons for loving God should be ours: Because when I pray, God hears me and in his time and perfect way he answers me. He rescues me from deep despair and he keeps me safe. He comforts me in my times of sorrow. He forgives me when I don’t deserve it. And he gives me rest. This is a wonderful testimony to the goodness of God — but it is David’s. In other words, these were real (specific) accounts David had in mind that reminded him of the goodness of God and stirred up his love.

We can all say the above things are true and God is so good. But when you say them and recall specifically how they apply to you, you like David will over flow with love appreciation for God. Then you too will be asking — what can I do for a God who loves me like that? David came up with a few things we can do: 1. Praise God publicly and privately for his goodness. 2. Keep our promises to him. 3. Offer thanksgiving to him. Spend some time in specific reflection today and you too will start the day, “I love the Lord, because...” (Psalms 116:1)
