Arthur Blank to speak at UGA fall com­mence­ment

ATHENS (AP) — Univer­sity of Ge­or­gia of­fi­cials said Home De­pot founder Arthur M. Blank will be the grad­u­a­tion speaker for the school’s fall 2012 un­der­grad­u­ate com­mence­ment

The cer­e­mony is set for Dec. 14 at Stege­man Coli­seum. The Athens Ban­ner-Her­ald re­ports Blank will be awarded an hon­orary doc­tor of laws de­gree dur­ing the cer­e­mony.

UGA fac­ulty mem­ber Fran Teague will be the com­mence­ment speaker for grad­u­ate students, who have their com­mence­ment the same day. Teague is a pro­fes­sor in UGA’s English and theater and film stud­ies de­part­ments.

Blank, who also owns the At­lanta Fal­cons, is a well-known phi­lan­thropist. The Arthur M. Blank Fam­ily Foun­da­tion has awarded grants of more than $250 mil­lion.
