Se­cu­rity guard shoots bank rob­ber dur­ing hold up

DE­CATUR (AP) — Po­lice said a se­cu­rity guard shot a rob­ber who tried to hold up a metro At­lanta bank us­ing a toy gun.

WXIA-TV re­ports a man tried to rob a Cit­i­zens Trust bank in De­catur min­utes af­ter it opened Wed­nes­day. A se­cu­rity guard shot the would-be rob­ber in the knee.

DeKalb County po­lice said it turns out the sus­pect’s gun was a plas­tic toy. He was taken to a hospi­tal af­ter be­ing shot. The FBI said it won’t re­lease the sus­pect’s iden­tity un­til fed­eral charges are filed.

Po­lice spokes­woman Lt. Pam Kunz said a bank em­ployee’s leg was grazed in the shoot­ing af­ter the se­cu­rity guard fired sev­eral rounds. The woman was treated and back at work within an hour.
