Cottonwood Farm will kick off their new Christian riding club for children between third to eighth grade on Monday, Oct. 1, at 4:30 p.m. The fee is $100 per month, along with other additional fees which will vary by individual students.

Kenneth and Teri Justice will teach classes with the help from Amy McKaughan, who is a trainer at Cottonwood.

The club offers horseback riding lessons, group Bible study and horse science classes. Lessons will be every other week and will be tailored to each student’s riding level; the club is not just for beginners. The horse science classes will be on the weeks without lessons and will teach the children about different things from breeds of horses to styles of riding.

“We don’t want to just have kids show up and have a riding lesson but to really learn about horses. Another big aspect is the Bible study and trying each week to relate the study to horses and horsemanship,” said McKaughan. “We want to get a big group joined to learn and grow together and adapt to what the kids want. We don’t want it to feel like a classroom setting, but we want our focus to be where they want to do and learn.”

“We want to reach out to the community and have a place for kids who want to learn about horses and also have a common faith in God,” Kenneth Justice said.

Club meetings will be held every Monday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Cottonwood Farm, located at 2120 Woodlawn Road in Covington. Students should come to each meeting wearing pants and shoes with a covered toe and heel. Helmets will be provided by the farm.
