Mans­field res­i­dent on award tele­cast

As the Ro­tary Lom­bardi Awards names col­lege foot­ball’s top down line­man or line­backer tonight, New­ton County will be well rep­re­sented.

While a former area gridiron stand­out isn’t in the run­ning for one of foot­ball’s top awards, a lo­cal star will still be on the pro­gram.

Mans­field na­tive Gan­non Adams’ song Game Face, which he co-wrote and recorded will be used in the live na­tional tele­cast of the Ro­tary Lom­bardi Awards to­day at 9 p.m. on the CBS Sports Net­work.

Gan­non, a grad­u­ate of Abra­ham Baldwin Agri­cul­tural Col­lege in Tifton, started a self­ti­tled band in 2012 and has al­ready had mu­si­cal high­lights such as open­ing for Merle Hag­gard at Ry­man Au­di­to­rium in Nashville, Tenn. in April 2012.

Gan­non be­gan play­ing at the age of 13 and really picked up his play­ing while at ABAC, with friend Brian Ca­gle from Mon­ti­cello. Ca­gle in­tro­duced him to Barry Wil­liams who en­cour­aged him to do a record. Af­ter that, he formed the Gan­non Adams Band with bass player Ron­nie Wil­liams, drum­mer Dale Al­mond and lead gui­tarists Connor Moon and Nathan Singer.

The fi­nal­ists for the 2012 Lom­bardi Awards, el­i­gi­ble to join pre­vi­ous win­ners such as A.J. Hawk, David Pollack, Julius Pep­pers, Or­lando Pace, War­ren Sapp and oth­ers, are Ge­or­gia’s Jarvis Jones, South Carolina’s Jade­veon Clowney, Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o and Alabama’s Bar­ret Jones.
